OrderStatusChange Emails

How can I cnfigure KK to not send Order status change emails?  I simply want an Order confirmation email to be sent and have that be it. 

Anyone know how I can configure it as such?

You need to look at the action class of your payment gateway and see when you are sending the emails. You may also be sending one in CheckoutConfirmationSubmitAction when the order is saved.
