One Page Checkout Problems in IE Firefox

We are running KonaKart 5.2.0 and would lke to use the One Page Checkout however users are experiencing problems in IE 8 and 9 and Firefox.   IE must be running in Compatibility mode to view the EditCartSubmit.do page.   Even in compatibility mode the Country defaults to "Afghanistan" rather than "United States" as it does in Chrome which works properly.   Is there a fix for this without doing a ful upgrade to 5.5?   Thanks

I'm on 5.2 and experiencing the same issue with the country.  My store is located in the "United States", so the code  adds "United States" to the top of the drop down list and populates the state drop down.  However, the default visible country is the first alpahbetical country in the country list (in my case Canada).  I would also be intrested in a fix.  Thanks.
